St. Cyril : St. Cyril of Alexandria Music Ministry

St. Cyril of Alexandria Music Ministry

The adult and jubilee (student) choirs welcome members of the parish to participate in the music ministry.  In addition, cantors musically lead the congregation, encouraging parishioners to pray through song.

Mission

To lend inspiration and beauty to worship services by bringing prayerful voices to the congregation.

In addition to attendance at the Sunday 11 a.m. Mass and other special Liturgies, the choir has rehearsal on Wednesday evenings.  There are an additional five rehearsals per season in which the men and women practice separately to prepare for Christmas and Easter liturgies.  The choir’s practice and performance season begins in September and runs through Pentecost Sunday.  The choir sings for the Christmas Eve Vigil Mass, the Mass on Christmas Day, the Easter Vigil liturgy, and the 11 AM Mass on Easter.

The Adult Choir is lead by Theresa Hammond (Director of Music Ministries) and composed of men and women high school age and older who sing in four part harmony.  Auditioning for the choir and reading music are not necessary; however singing on pitch is expected.  One choir volunteer serves as the music librarian, managing the music distribution and care of the music.  All choir members over age 18 must register with the Diocesan Safe Environment Database for the protection of children and young people.

Resurrection Choir

This group serves the congregation by singing during funeral liturgies.

Jubilee Choir

The Jubilee Choir is composed of students in grades kindergarten through eighth from the school, Faith Formation classes, or who are home schooled.

Volunteer Time Commitment and Duties

The Jubilee Choir practices once a week after school, September through Advent.  The choir performs before the 4:30 p.m. Christmas Eve Mass.
